COLUMBIA—The United Methodist Men of Windsor United Methodist Church are committed to their church’s projects as well as to a host of external projects.
For several years, they have joined with Windsor United Methodist Women to support the Killingsworth Home by providing gifts, services and necessary home repairs. They find these outside projects promote additional fellowship opportunities above and beyond holding monthly UMM meetings. It also broadens the interaction among members of the church and the community. For example, they currently are working with members of Virginia Wingard and Asbury Memorial UMCs to provide general maintenance and upkeep of the home.
The Windsor men have taken things a step further at times by involving Christian Faith Fellowship, a neighboring church, to join them when many hands would make the workload lighter. The two churches have shared a strong relationship through an annual Community Unity Service they host together, so the request for a joint project that benefits the community was a natural one.
Together, they painted and made needed structural repairs. They also provided a grill-out for the workers, staff and residents of Killingsworth.
Through these types of projects, they said they have not only enhanced UMM fellowship, but have also increased opportunities for fellowship with other church groups.
Killingsworth continues to have needs beyond their daily operational ones, for instance replacement of the tin portion of the roof, additional ceiling insulation and replacement of 25-year-old carpeting. These things are outside of their financial abilities at this time.
Windsor’s UMM encourages other United Methodist Men’s groups to prayerfully consider joining churches in any way they are able to help support the Killingsworth Home.
