The Southern Mutual Church Insurance Co. has donated $5,000 to the Disaster Recovery Ministries of the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Volunteers with Disaster Recovery Ministries – both individuals and teams – have been working for more than two years to respond to the needs of families whose homes were devastated by the historic flooding of 2015, Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and other storms.

Smith

“There is still so much need around South Carolina brought on by these storms and floods,” said Ward Smith, conference director of Disaster Recovery Ministries. “Hundreds of families are still not fully restored with homes that are safe, sanitary and secure.

“This generous donation from Southern Mutual Church Insurance will enable Disaster Recovery Ministries to fill gaps in other funding sources and help us get to some of the people who are still hurting.”

Bates

Robert Bates is president and chief executive officer of Southern Mutual Church Insurance, which has provided insurance products and loss prevention services for South Carolina churches for almost 90 years.

“We feel it is important that we support the missions of the church and have been honored to work with South Carolina United Methodists on many fronts,” Bates said. “We know Disaster Recovery Ministries helps churches and individuals return to serving God and their communities.

“Being a part of such a wonderful ministry aligns perfectly with our goal of serving churches and God through our actions.”
