South Carolina Ministries With Young People has developed a program to train, equip and empower volunteers who work with youth at local United Methodist churches.
SCMYP Leadership Labs is a monthly video resource that leverages the experience of ministry professionals to address a specific area of youth ministry. The goal of the videos is to offer a useful, practical tool for bringing up a generation of youth workers.
Each month during the school year, a new video is made available via YouTube and on Vimeo. Offering it on these platforms allows the user to view it alone or download it and share with a youth ministry team.

“Our hope is to offer a useful, practical tool for bringing up this generation of youth workers,” said Chris Lynch, a conference congregational specialist who works with youth ministry. “Whether you are a volunteer or full-time youth worker – large or small church, urban or rural church, or anything in between – you will find helpful insights into ministry with young people available with the click of a mouse.
“With the online platform and the eventual existence of a full array of topics at your fingertips, youth workers can access excellent training whenever and wherever they find an opportunity.”
Links to previous videos will remain accessible anytime volunteers need them in an archive on the SCMYP website.
The first video, posted this month, is centered on Small Group Ministry in the context of youth ministry.

It features the Rev. Trevor Miller, director of worship production and men’s and young adult ministries, and the Rev. Nick Cunningham, director of discipleship and adult ministries, both at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Lexington.
The topic of the March video will be Small(er) Church Youth Ministry.
