We now have enough structures that can be accessed to preform ERT work throughout SC that we are calling for all SC ERT personnel to respond to our calls for help. We have two locations that are ready to accept and house teams.
One is in the Manning / Summerton area, which has had some roadway and areas opened, many others or not. There appears to be a lot of work there such as muck out and tarps on roofs. We have a church and two other places that we can stay at with the availability of showers and restrooms. Contact is Rev. Ken Phelps at 803-840-2005.
The second one is in the Greenwood area with mainly muck out jobs. For to eight teams will be needed there. Housing is available at St. Mark UMC in Greenwood. Contact is Danny Thompson at 864-934-1832.
We have others in Georgetown and surrounding areas that I need someone to lead a team or two to help. It is mainly tarp jobs but probably some muck-out.
There are others in various places such as Holly Hill that need individual team to check on.
Monday, October 12 we plan on bringing teams into the heavily damaged portions of Dorchester County. Most of this will be muck-out. There are around 100 homes there that have been flooded that we are now getting access to but the flood waters are still rising and it is to unsafe until Monday. Mennonites are also there to help. There will be a lot of work there and we will establish a church or two to host teams. Further information and contact info will come in a later email.
Columbia / Lexington area is an area we are strongly focusing on but as of now do not have a point of contact but are in the process of establishing one. Hopefully we can begin with teams their soon and follow up information will come in a later email.
We are allowing a few non ERT persons to be on a team as long as there is an ERT person leading the team and the majority of the team are ERT certified. This is an exception due to the extent of the disaster. No non certified persons shall run a chainsaw. We have not had much chainsaw work so far. All persons will be required to sign a release of liability form from our conference and must have their own personal insurance.
Thank all of you in advance who will selflessly and lovingly give of your precious time, finances, energy and materials to help others in their dire times of need while reaching out as God’s hands and feet to them. Please stay safe and do not take any chances. Hydrate and look out for one another.
