We are very actively assessing damage from flooding rains and such associated with Hurricane Joaquin across our state. There is damage in many areas, but seems to be more so from the midlands to the coast. Some hard hit areas we know of now are: Richland County, some areas of Lexington; Charleston, Dorchester and Florence Counties. There are other pocket such as Holly Hill and Eutawville in Orangeburg County & Horry County that we know have a few homes damaged though there may be more. We will continue to assess tomorrow and probably start sending out SC ERT Teams (maybe Tuesday), Wednesday – on to areas that have been deemed safe and secure. Some areas may take a week or so for the water to subside enough for us to enter.
This will mainly be a mud muck out response, which can take a lot of hours for each home. Please remember to hydrate, take breaks, and make sure a home is structurally safe before working and stay out of contaminated water as much as possible. Due to the potential magnitude of this event we will most surely be bringing in ERT Teams for other states.
We are having daily up-dates including all district disaster coordinators and conference personnel including our Bishop. If you know of a special need please contact your district disaster coordinator. If there is an ERT need then please also contact Billy Robinson at brpraisejesus@aol.com or text at 803-539-8429.
If you need to report damage to your church or need to request conference emergency response teams please contact your district office and you district disaster response coordinators.Â
