Floodwaters in the wake of Hurricane Florence have soaked areas of eastern South Carolina. Here are a few ways United Methodists across the state can help:

Pray

  • For the safety and recovery of those affected by the storm.
  • For the safety of first responders and others working with survivors.
  • For the safety of volunteers helping with clean-up efforts.

Volunteer for short-term response/relief

  • We need volunteers of all ability levels in the coming weeks and months.
  • If early indications hold true, recovery could take years, so the need for volunteers will not go away any time soon.

Volunteer for long-term recovery

  • There is still plenty of work to be done with South Carolina families whose homes were devastated by 2015’s historic floods and Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
  • Disaster Recovery Ministries of the South Carolina Conference has opportunities now for teams of volunteers and individuals to work on these long-term recovery efforts.
  • To volunteer or for more information, contact Ward Smith at 803-726-3105 or screcovery@umcsc.org.

Donate money to S.C. Disaster Response

  • Please do not donate unsolicited items, such as clothing.
  • The most effective donation before and after a disaster is money, which the S.C. Conference can direct to the greatest need.
