Job Description: Family Ministries Director
Aldersgate United Methodist Church (AUMC) is seeking someone to fill the part-time position of Family Ministries Director. This person needs to be energetic and work well with children, youth, and families. They will be responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate and intergenerational activities.
Directly Reports to: Senior Pastor
Overall Responsibilities:
- Envisions programs needed to meet God’s plan for AUMC and directs the integration of these programs into the life of the church.
- Organizes and coordinates activities of children, youth, and families. Children are birth – Grade 5. Youth are Grades 6-12. Some activities will be designed for intergenerational audiences.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Assists in the development of ministry programs for AUMC.
- Recruits, coordinates, and encourages volunteers to minister to children, which includes Sunday School, VBS, and Nursery.
- Trains teachers for ministry to children and youth.
- Attends scheduled meetings (Including evenings as required).
- Reaches out to the community and promotes ministries of AUMC.
Additional Responsibilities/Programs:
- Evaluates program effectiveness on an ongoing basis with staff and leadership.
- Prepares supplies for each program meeting or activity, including ordering approved curriculum.
- Coordinates VBS program.
- Writes articles for bulletins and newsletters.
- Oversees nursery program: recruits and trains attendants, monitors supplies.
- Oversees/maintain/forecast budget.
Additional Job Information:
- Consults with co-workers and other church ministry teams and administrative committees.
- Works collaboratively with a variety of ministry leaders, staff, and congregational volunteers to effectively coordinate with other church ministries, programs, and activities.
Compensation: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required):
College degree preferred
Experience in working with children and their families
Understanding of faith and the ability to communicate faith to all ages
Good organizational skills
Ability to work with others
Proficient with computer (Microsoft Word, Windows, Social Media, etc.)
