Position Summary:   The Family Coordinator will encourage all in the congregation and community to grow in faith as Christian disciples. Through special activities, to include children/youth and family related functions.  The coordinator will help to facilitate, coordinate and work with church, Pastor and community leaders to address the needs so that all God’s people grow in strength and wisdom.  This is a part-time position starting at 17,000 per year.  Please forward resumes to psumc@sc.rr.com

General Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma, be 21 years of age or older.  Experience in a Christian education at a church, or hands-on experience in a congregational setting a plus.
  • Have a working knowledge and ability to communicate with youth and parents through various social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
  • Ability to plan, organize, facilitate, and provide guidance to projects and spontaneous activities related to children, youth and family ministries.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively/collaboratively with others.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be creative and flexible in solving problems.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment as an independent worker.

Principal Function Under supervision of the Pastor and the Staff Parish Committee, the coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing a Biblically centered program for children, youth and families.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate, evaluate and provide educational resources for the children’s ministry.
  • With the guidance of the Pastor and current volunteers, help to reintroduce and grow a Sunday school program for children and expand to youth.  Work with volunteers and parents to plan weekly children’s church activities as well as special activities and projects, for different times of the year such as Christmas, Easter, and Vacation Bible School.
  • Work with key church leaders in the enlisting of volunteers to support activities.
  • Coordinate with leadership within the church to promote programs and activities through social media, website, newsletter, etc.
  • Oversee the curriculum preparation, activities, crafts, and class materials prior to the planned activity.
  • Prepare and teach Biblically based learning activities in a creative way so that children and youth and their families will learn and grow in their faith.
  • Coordinate with church leadership to reach out into the community and promote programs to community and area.
  • Maintain communication with parents/guardians related to promoting the program and acquiring feedback on activities.
  • Attend ongoing Children’s Ministry training and meetings when necessary.
  • Complete background check & safe sanctuary training.
  • Follow child to teacher ratios when scheduling volunteers to serve.
  • Develop a good relationship with volunteers and Pastor.
  • Demonstrate a positive and friendly attitude with the parents and the children who are in your care.
  • Report needed supplies and concerns to the Pastor.
  • Wear identification name tag always.
  • Keep rooms looking neat, clean, and sanitized.
  • Develop security and sign in procedures with parents.
  • Coordinate schedules and initiate publicity for all programs with the church office and/or Pastor as necessary.
  • Send out postcards to visiting children and children within the church not attending activities.
  • Participate in district programs and training opportunities and be available, as time permits, to give leadership and support to district and conference programs as requested.  Such commitments will be made in consultation with the pastor and staff parish committee.
