The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for oversight of the music programs and leadership and management of the music staff and participants. This oversight includes creating, delivering and evaluating the music ministries for NRUMC in collaboration with the church’s leadership team. This person reports to the Senior Pastor and is direct supervisor for the Assistant Director(s) of Music Ministries.

Salary Range starts at $60,000+ depending on experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for oversight of the music programs and leadership and management of the music staff and participants. This oversight includes creating, delivering and evaluating the music ministries for NRUMC in collaboration with the church’s leadership team. This person reports to the Senior Pastor and is direct supervisor for the Assistant Director(s) of Music Ministries.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates development, implementation, and evaluation of music programs at NRUMC.
  • Provides leadership and support for all music staff and volunteers.
  • Direction and planning of multiple music groups that meet on a weekly basis. These groups will be a combination of choral, bell, and contemporary music. 
  • Explores new and creative ideas while continuing to develop strengths in professional development opportunities for self and all key music ministry leaders.
  • Serves as part of the church’s leadership team to assure music is an integral part of worship and ministry at NRUMC.
  • Collaborate with NRUMC Staff in planning and participating in the music coordination for weekly and special services, i.e., Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and any other special events as needed.
  • Responsible for effective oversight of music ministry budgets and equipment in a spirit of good stewardship. This includes the budget for buying and maintaining equipment, contracting musicians as needed, and purchasing repertoire. 
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and retreats.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BM or BME and/or Sacred Music. MM or MME strongly preferred.
  • Has had ten or more years of experience working with /directing choral and/or music ensembles.
  • Strong abilities in working with people of all ages and with all levels of musical ability and possesses a distinct heart for ministry.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Ability to inspire, lead and encourage others.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with keyboard, piano or organ.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinker with ability to encourage lay participation in music and strategically match gifts and talents of others desiring to participate within the music ministry.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent collaboration skills while working with others including staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrates willingness and effectiveness in working with teams.
