Vision for Children’s Ministry: Children’s Ministry exists to guide the education and development of children (infants through 5th grade) and those who care for and minister to children.

The Director of Children’s Ministry at LUMC is a full-time position in which the following duties are included:

  • Provide visionary leadership for children’s ministry and communicate all programming to the congregation and greater community.
  • Work alongside and collaborate with clergy, staff and church leadership, in order to, both generate program growth and increase the number of children, families and congregants actively involved in children’s ministry.
  • Develop effective and exciting program opportunities and activities for children and families that foster relationships and allow children to grow as disciples.
  • Office hours are flexible but will include directing a Sunday morning Sunday School ministry, nursery ministry, Children’s Church and Sunday evening activities.
  • Duties will also include managing a budget, attending church-related meetings, planning, coordinating and directing various summer programs and integration of the children’s participation in worship services and church activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the church and Preschool for Safe Sanctuary purposes and collaborate with the Preschool Director about Chapel curriculum.

The Director of Children’s Ministry at LUMC should have the following qualities:

  • A passion for ministry with children and a deep commitment to faith formation of children.
  • A basic knowledge of child development and an understanding of the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children.
  • The ability to listen to and communicate with people of all ages, work with other ministry leaders and delegate responsibility.
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational or supervisory capacity.

Education Requirement:

  • Preference will be given to someone with a college or university degree and possesses an educational background that provides a thorough understanding of Wesleyan theology.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

A 90-day probationary period will be used to allow for the assessment of a good fit for both the children and employee.
