The South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church is looking to hire a full-time congregational specialist to serve local churches in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Resourcing of local churches for increased health and effectiveness to include:
- Attending meetings with clergy and lay leaders to stay informed of the needs in the local churches within the districts served
- Assist local churches in identifying needs, assessing their health, and connecting them with Forward Leaders to engage in the Forward Focus process
- Coaching, consulting with, or providing training to local church leaders to address needs
- Support for District Connectional Ministries Teams
- Work with District Connectional Ministries Team to advance priorities as identified by the annual conference
- Work with district superintendent and district lay leader to identify people to serve on the District Connectional Ministries (DCM)
- Meet regularly with DCM Team leadership to plan meetings and organize their work
- Provide training as needed to DCM Team leadership, particularly as new members join the team
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Communicate monthly with District Superintendent and Director of Connectional Ministries regarding congregations being resourced sharing any themes noted or prevalent challenges that may need to be addressed in a broader aspect
- Attend meetings with CM Team and Congregational Specialists as needed to develop resources and address needs of local churches that are within the scope of Connectional Ministries.
- Attend Connectional Ministries full meetings (2) to work with Four Ministry areas as assigned
QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of bachelor’s degree required. Some graduate level theological training preferred.

- Teaching and training
- Conflict negotiation
- Coaching
- Specialization in an area pertinent to resourcing local churches
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Be sympathetic with the Christian faith and purposes of the United Methodist Denomination.
- This full-time position requires a background and credit check.
- This position requires evening and weekend work as well as some overnight travel.
- This position requires residency within the Pee Dee region of South Carolina (detailed area provided upon application).
