Bishop Holston has announced two new district superintendents. Rev. Dr. Stephen Love will be assigned to the Greenwood District and Rev. Sandra Stevens-Poirel will be assigned to the Charleston District.
Rev. Dr. Stephen Love will be assigned to the Greenwood District.
Rev. Dr. Stephen L. Love is a native of York, SC. He is married to Mamie Simpson Love and they have one son Stephen Jr. He has been in ministry for 25 years. He is currently an Elder in the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and serves as the senior pastor of The St. Thomas Charge consisting of New Hope, Stewart Chapel and Zion United Methodist Churches.
He serves on many conference and community boards such as:
- The Charleston District Board of Congregational Development
- The Charleston District Chair of Committee Of Superintendency
- The SC Conference of the United Methodist Church Board of Ordained Ministry
- Chair of the Extension Ministry Committee of the Board of the Board of Ordained Ministry
- SC Conference Clergy Mentor for Continued Residency Group
- Coordinator of the Bishop’s School of Ministry
- Board Member of the East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO)
- Advisor to the Huger Wando Men’s Coalition
He received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Gardner Webb University and a Master’s of Divinity from Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA. He has also completed the Duke Divinity’s Reynolds Program for Church Leadership. He has received the Doctorate of Ministry degree at Drew University Madison New Jersey.
He is committed to living out his faith following the words recorded in Mark 12:30-31
30you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Rev. Dr. Sandra Stevens-Poirel will be assigned to the Charleston District.
Rev. Dr. Sandra Stevens -Poirel is the senior pastor of Trinity UMC, Conway, where she has served since 2010. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (M. Div.), and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (D. Min.). She was ordained an elder in 2002. She completed the Royce and Jane Reynolds Program in Church Leadership in 2007. She was the 2008 clergy recipient of the Harry Denman Evangelism Award.
Appointments served include churches in Columbia, Murrells Inlet, Andrews, and Conway.
She previously served on the District and Conference Board of Evangelism. She served as Vice President of the Alumni Board of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. She presently serves as the Chair of the Committee on the District Superintendency and is on the Marion District Leadership Team. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Epworth Children’s Home.
She is married to the Reverend Jim Hyatt. Together they have five children.
