The Associate Director of Contemporary Worship will serve as the music leader for the 9:45 contemporary worship service and support the Director of Music Ministries through collaborative experiences throughout the liturgical year. Primary responsibilities include worship leader for 9:45 SoulJourn service, direction and planning for Exaltation! (SoulJourn Band), preparing music and materials for SoulJourn Worship, and coordinating music volunteers, when needed. In addition, this staff person will direct, plan, prepare music and materials for the Youth Band/Choir and will work closely with the Director and Associate Director of Youth Ministries in recruiting and collaborative experiences with Creative Arts at NRUMC.

This position is 20 hours per week and the salary range is $17,000-$20,000 depending on experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Contemporary Worship will serve as the music leader for the 9:45 contemporary worship service and support the Director of Music Ministries through collaborative experiences throughout the liturgical year. Primary responsibilities include leadership for 9:45 SoulJourn service, direction and planning for Exaltation! (SoulJourn Band), preparing music and materials for SoulJourn, and coordinating music volunteers, when needed. In addition, this position will direct, plan, prepare music and materials for the Youth Band/Choir and will work closely with the Director and Associate Director of Youth Ministries in recruiting and collaborative experiences with Creative Arts at NRUMC.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direction and planning of SoulJourn and Youth Band/Choir meeting on a weekly basis. These groups will be a combination of choral/instrumental and contemporary music.
  • Serves as collaborative pianist alongside Director of Music Ministries for Children’s Music Ministry.
  • Arranges instrumental parts as needed for new music integrated into the contemporary worship service. For example, find or prepare a clarinet, flute, and/or sax part for a contemporary song.
  • Helps coordinate volunteers to assist with children and youth music and creative ministry groups. Serves as backup collaborative pianist for ensembles as needed.
  • Prepare weekly multimedia presentations for contemporary worship service – including slides for songs, Scripture, sermons, and other slides as needed.
  • Work with appropriate office staff to send out communication to groups, get music copied as needed, schedule guest/substitute musicians as needed, and order necessary materials.
  • Oversee CCLI and any other copyright.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BM, BME or Sacred Music degree required. Has had three or more years of experience working with/directing choral and/or music ensembles.
  • Vast knowledge of music (contemporary) necessary.
  • Strong abilities in working with people of all ages and with all levels of musical ability and possesses a distinct heart for ministry.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Strong keyboard skills. Lead vocalist rehearsals and worship when necessary.
  • Experience in choral, instrumental, and arranging (Finale or Sibelius).
  • Worship music training and experience, preferably contemporary worship.
  • Familiarity with United Methodist Liturgy including the Lectionary and Liturgical Calendar.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (weekly emails to band)
  • Great people skills (flexible, willing to listen, positive, uplifting, easy going)
  • Forward thinking – planning in advance (knowledge of music and personnel)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrates willingness and effectiveness in working with teams.
  • Strong skill sets with technology (Livestream, Pro Presenter, Media Shout)
