In our current reality as a denomination, strong leadership is needed among both clergy and laity in our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Developing Clergy Leaders
We will emphasize and address raising up effective clergy leadership, enlistment and development of effective pastors, raising up new clergy, creating a culture in our congregations where pastors are birthed, and leadership issues not addressed by seminary education.
Developing Lay Leaders
We acknowledge that strong congregations begin with strong lay leadership and that recruiting and training lay leadership offers an opportunity to strengthen churches. We encourage congregations to include younger generations in their leadership.
Lay-Clergy Partnership
We commit to exploring, creating and implementing new ways of establishing strong lay-clergy partnerships, which set the stage for the most effective leadership. One such partnership: The Board of Ordained Ministry and the Lay Leadership Area of Connectional Ministries.
